This Sunday marked the airing of one more episode of Season 3 of “Superstar Singer.” One extraordinary talent on this season of “Superstar Singer” is Shubh, who joined the talented squad leader Sayli to perform an iconic song this week. “Avigal’s boy Shail” saying “Sanam Teri Kasam” was performed to perfection; this epic soundtrack created massive respect for the superior talent and depth of feelings this season of “Superstar Singer” has continued to live with.

“Sanam Teri Kasam” is a yesteryear classic song by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar from the movie of the same name in 1982. A composition by R.D. Burman, it’s characterized by haunting melody and heart-stabbing lyrics, hence categorizing it as a hit amongst generations. Intoning an evergreen classic like that could be daunting yet equally fulfilling for any singer, as intoning an evergreen classic needs to have the talent for demonstrative singing to bring out the deep emotion embedded in the singing.

Vocal and very versatile, Shubh did well to get high marks from the judges and audience for his emotional singing; there’s the experienced Sayli, already an established singer and one of the squad leaders, who had long experience and deep knowledge about music at the stage. Their performance of “Sanam Teri Kasam” is at the confluence of youthful vigor and veteran skills, which came together very well for a moving performance that was technically sound.

When Shubh and Sayli started singing, “Sanam Teri Kasam,” their presentation, which needed no words to be conveyed to the audience, soon proved to them that the two voices were melodiously complementing each other and raising the presentation to climax. Shubh’s pure and melodious voice nailed the innocence and purity of the song, while Sayli’s husky and mature vocals brought depth and warmth. It’s always a very nice harmonic blend, the result of which is soothingly powerful for this very reason, by way of vocal control and wide-expressive singing.

Not just the vocal delivery—it was the whole emotional experience that both the singers put into this song. The deep sense of yearning and nostalgia in the lyrics coming across was simply transmitted through the young performers’ expressions and body language, which pushed forth the emotional effect.

Much to the ovations and loud praises of the audience, the judges—Neha Kakkar, Pawandeep Rajan, Salman Ali, and Arunita Kanjilal—were visibly deeply touched by what Shubh and Sayli put out there. Having not said anything throughout the performance.

Neha Kakkar: Neha’s eyes welled up, and she continued to look emotional during this duet. Her big smile and clapping hands indicated that she was simply in awe of the emotional quotient of this duet by Shubh and Sayli.

The last episode of Season 3 of “Superstar Singer” was wonderful since it was during that one that the duet of Shubh and Sayli beautifully performed the song “Sanam Teri Kasam.” Both were standing in front of the judges and the stimulated audience with great emotional content and a breathtaking amount of talent. One can think of many reasons to like that particular reality episode, but the performance of Shubh and Sayli in that might be the biggest corroboration of the belief that music is an eternal power always to touch hearts and create memories.
