Bollywood sensational singer, Song Nigam who is known for his soulful and melodious golden voice received the prestigious Honorary Fellowship Award in London. He was awarded by the Indian Diaspora Students organization. For his important impact in the field of music, he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship.
The fellowship was awarded to him when he was in the UK during a series of concerts. During his jam-packed performance in the UK, the fellowship was awarded to him by The National Indian Students and Alumni Association at Wembley Arena in London.
From the hands of British Veteran Indian Labour MP Virendra Sharma and Professor Racheal Dwyer, the award was presented to Sony Nigam. The two dedicated well-known persons were Emeritus Professor of Indian Culture at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
The NISAU UK chairman Sanam Arora addressed “You once mentioned that music is not just your profession but your reason for being. It is this passion, coupled with your commitment to give back to the community that resonates deeply with what we stand for at NISAU.”
She further added in her speech “We strive to empower, to lead, and to inspire, principles you embody through your actions every day. You are not just a musical icon, but a bridge uniting hearts, minds, and nations through music; and fostering community through your philanthropic efforts be it your fight for performers’ rights or your championship of gender equality for instance through launching the world’s first transgender band.”
Previously many celebrities, some of them include Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, and Sri Sri Devi Shankar bestowed with the Honorary Fellowship Award as these individuals recognize the Indian cultural exchange, education, and social improvement on a world stage. Sonu Nigam addressed stating “I am very touched to hear and read such kind words for me. Thank you NISAU for your love and this honor. I consider this as another precious gift from my Almighty.”
Sony Nigam finished a worldwide tour executing his performances in various cities including London, Leeds, Glasgow, and Birmingham. Honoring the mark of 30 years for his bestselling cinematic numbers including Kal ho na ho, Shukran Allah’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ the series of concerts was done.
