‘Mirzapur 3’ actors Ali Fazal, aka Guddu, and Priyanshu Painyuli, aka Robin, have recently shared valuable insights about how the music production teams of the famed web series brought the two together after years. Priyanshu said in an interview with Zoom, “I’ve known Ali for years now; we are close friends and have previously worked together. He is an amazing actor, fully committed to his craft; as for my character ‘Robin’, I’ve received much love from fans since the show aired a few weeks ago.”

Priyanshu Painyuli’s character ‘Robin’ went through many transitions in the last two seasons, from being a cult favorite with his dialogue, ‘Ye Bhi Thik Hai’ to receiving a gruesome and unexpected death at the hands of Ali Fazal, aka Guddu Pandit, on episode eight of ‘Mirzapur 3.’

While many fans were horrified by the gruesome fate that befell ‘Robin’ at the hands of Guddu, few realized that the plot twist was the loss of Guddu’s sanity as he kills Robin, his sister’s lover, on mere impulse, unable to control the criminal ways that have consumed him.

Other than sharing an on-screen rivalry, Priyanshu has disclosed that the duo also shared a common taste in music: “We share a lot of music when we used to change for our character roles in our changing rooms and vanity vans. I used to share my favorite tracks with him every time we got together, and he used to do the same. It was during one such time that we realized that we have a very similar taste in music. He also made me hear his favorites, which I liked as well. Oftentimes we used to listen to different techno versions of Spiderman music that we both loved.”

He added, “Through our time working together, we have grown very close. In a way, I think I can talk to Ali about everything without thinking twice, and that’s the type of bond we share. Despite having on-screen rivalry, in real life, we are very close friends. I can call him my big brother.”

Painyuli reminisced about their time together on set when he introduced Ali to his collection of music, discovering that they both liked those tracks. Their mutual interest in music helped the two develop a close bond off-screen.

He also added that he was distraught when he learned of the production’s plan to ‘finish him off’ in the last episode of the series, but he realized that given the absence of the titular ‘Munna Tripathi’, something heartbreaking must be shown on the scene to garner the continued interests of netizens. He said, “Mirzapur is a good show, and I was genuinely attracted by the role and characters; however, when I finally asked management about it, they said that they were considering it.” He added, “Instead of being upset about the proceedings, I decided to go along with it; in a way, Ali played a big hand in my reconsidering.”

Ali and Priyanshu’s deep camaraderie offset added more authenticity to the third installation of the beloved web series, magnifying the intricate roles played by the two, including several musical scenes highlighted in the show. Many fans have disclosed that this season has become more engagingly dynamic due to the duo’s amazing performance. But many still expressed disappointment at the show makers decision to finish off a character, especially when he was being slowly well-liked.

Priyanshu also disclosed, “When you think from the maker’s perspective, it’s a very gutsy move. It was a bold move as well as challenging. I feel season 3 is a very mature show compared to seasons 1 and 2, and it’s going in a direction that people were not expecting. I feel that’s how something new can be generated. At times, you feel like this shock wasn’t needed, but yeah, it’s one of the most interesting characters that I’ve ever played.”

He also speculated about the show’s future proceeding saying, “But yes, the shock value is going to change the mad king, and the most beautiful thing is that Robin was the hopeful role who was making things right in season 3.”
