Mohammad Rafi, born on December 24, 1924, in Kotla Sultan Singh, Punjab, is a name synonymous with the golden era of Bollywood music. Rafi’s breakthrough came with the song ‘Tera Khilona Toota Balak’ in the film ‘Anmol Ghadi’ (1946). This marked the beginning of a prolific career that spanned over three decades, during which he lent his voice to more than 7,000 songs across various genres and languages.

‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho’ from ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’ (1960): This romantic ballad, composed by Ravi, remains one of the most loved songs in Indian cinema. The song beautifully captures the essence of yearning and admiration, with Rafi’s melodious voice adding depth and emotion. The film, starring Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman, is remembered as much for its music as for its compelling narrative.

‘Yeh Dunia Yeh Mehfil’ from ‘Heer Ranja’ (1970): A soulful melody that showcases Rafi’s ability to convey deep emotions, ‘Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil’ is a poignant song from the film ‘Heer Ranjha’ (1970). Composed by Madan Mohan, this song reflects the pain and sorrow of unrequited love, making it a timeless classic.
