 A Rhythmic Journey: AR Rahman’s “Headhunting to Beatboxing” Premieres at IFFM 2024

New Delhi: Once famous just for enchanting listeners with his tunes, the melody maestro of India, A. R. Rahman is not just captivating listeners now. He is soon to step into a documentary with his production “Headhunting to Beat Boxing” – a film which presented an assurance of music’s amazing ability to transform. 

Premised to stage a world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) scheduled in 2024, the film offers a spellbinding tour around Nagaland, one of the seven sisters of the Infosphere located in the North East of India. Nagaland is one of the most beautiful places surrounded by exquisite scriveners that have a lot in terms of culture and music just waiting to be discovered. 

“Headhunting to Beat Boxing” is much more than a conventional travel narrative. Made by Rohit Gupta, the film goes into the interesting enigma of music among different tribes and ages in Nagaland. Talking about the film he said, “It’s very close to our heart as it focuses on the culturally and musically rich state of Nagaland ‘ He, along with the director of the film, Rohit Gupta, is looking forward to presenting this special story of the Naga lands to the people of Melbourne.

Similarly, Gupta also made the same statement, highlighting the movie as a global product. “We’re grateful for just scooping a competition slot at IFFM,” he said. “I feel the narrative is universal as much as it is the miracle of music.” He said that he took five years to work on the film and build it to what it is. The expectation is high, Gupta looks forward to seeing the people’s reaction and for them to embrace the” compositions of the rich cultural and musical Naga heritage.

It is not just about showing the world a remote place, “Headhunting to Beatboxing” rather introduces us to “a whole new sound from India.” On the other hand, this documentary could be a game changer. The film title suggests a contrast in terms of these two aspects and after researching more about Nagaland’s past, one realizes that this is indeed what it is.
